About This FEB

We have several phenomenal federal properties including the Harry S Truman Library and Museum, Richard Bolling Federal Building, Charles Evans Whittaker U.S. Courthouse, Robert J. Dole Courthouse, Internal Revenue Service Kansas City Campus, Whiteman Air Force Base and Fort Leavenworth Army Post.  Amazing Fact:  Fort Leavenworth was built in 1827 and is oldest active Army post west of the Mississippi River and the third oldest active post!   

In addition to these properties, we are also home to Haskell Indian Nations University, which was founded in 1884 and is the oldest continually operating federal school for Native Americans, where approximately 140 tribal nations and Alaska Native Communities study

Committees

  • Emergency Preparedness & Response (COOP Working Group): conducts Regional COOP Working Group (CWG) activities; assists with planning of the Regional Interagency COOP Exercise; ensures agencies have adequate Occupant Emergency Plans; works on preparing the Federal government for a pandemic event, and helps identify training programs to assist in emergency preparedness for the federal community.   
  • ADR/Shared Neutrals Committee: is a cooperative arrangement between participating federal agencies in the greater Kansas City area that make reciprocal agreements for alternative dispute resolution services and to share resources cooperatively. The ADR subcommittee conducts annual Shared Neutrals and Mediator training. 
  • Diversity Education & Cultural Awareness: fosters cultural awareness, develops leadership skills and cultivates the diverse heritage of the government community, while promoting equal opportunity and fair treatment for all persons. This committee coordinates the Martin Luther King Celebration, Women’s History Month program, Unity Day and other cultural awareness programs.C
  • Education & Training: plans and coordinates a “Best Practices” Seminar for senior officials, a Mid Career Retirement Seminar (Career/Life Seminar) and Early Career Financial Planning Seminar. Committee members share effective training programs, job fairs, vacancies, and plan other training seminars as requested by the FEB.
  • Human Resources: convenes agency Human Resource Specialists to network and discuss issues of concern.  Each meeting includes Hot Policy updates from OPM, discussion on agency vacancies and recruitment, etc.  Guest speakers are also invited to speak on subjects of interest to the HR community.
  • Regional Wellness Council: educates and encourages federal employees to make health and wellness a priority through improving the worksite cultures in promoting sustainable practices, wellness, physical activity, and healthy eating.
  • Small/Minority Business: serves as a hub to connect small and minority business with resources, events, and vendor community services available within the federal, state and local government sectors. Committee members include representatives from agencies of the federal government, state governments, local governments, Chambers of Commerce and community service organizations.  The committee develops strategies and goals to further educate small businesses on doing business with the government.
  • Veterans Affairs: monitors issues on veterans affairs and disseminates to veterans in the federal community. Coordinates the Veterans Stand Down and promotes local Veterans Day activities.
